Pinterest Love

Confession. I've been lurking around Pinterest for a few months, but have only yesterday discovered how to pin my own stuff. I'm a little slow.

But now I can't seem to stop myself.

Antique Armchair

My husband inherited a 100+ year old arm chair that was in need of some love.

The chair was his grandfather's and had been re-stained and re-covered years ago, but had been in storage and was starting to look a little (a lot) sad.

I sanded and sanded some more.

Then I spray painted it with four entire cans of Rustoleum in Gloss Ivory.
That old wood just soaked in the paint.

After the paint was completely dry, I sanded and sanded some more again to really accent the detail work on the wood. 

Then I added some fresh padding to the seat and recovered it with a staple gun and my husband's help-- he pulled the fabric tight while I stapled it in place. 

The last step was to hot glue the new trim around the edges.

I like it.

Father's Day {Tie} Printie

Non sequitur 1. Father's Day, my baby's first birthday, my father-in-law's birthday and my parents-in-law's (how, exactly, do you write that?) 40th anniversary all fall on the same weekend this year. It's a big, ole party round here.

Non sequitur 2. I have a furniture re-do I'm busy-busy with right now and can't wait to show. Stay tuned, friends. Big. Huge. (For me, but that's not saying much). Gigantic.

Non sequitur 3. You're all so sweet and wonderful and I am grateful for you and that you stop by. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I wish I could give you each a high five, up high, down low, too slow. I would even leave out the too-slow part.

My Favorite Peach Cobbler

When I was eight years old, my family drove from Texas to Tennessee in our brand new car for a summer vacation.  

The last night of the trip, my mom made this for dessert and I kept sneaking back into the kitchen for an extra spoonful. Before my mom caught me, I'd eaten nearly the entire pan.

So the next morning, we got in the car and started the drive back. I fell asleep in the back seat and woke up feeling not so good.

Well, I guess I ate a little too much cobbler and became a bit ill. In the car. The brand new car. At the beginning of a long drive back to Texas. In the middle of summer.

Don't ask me why I didn't tell anyone to pull over. I have no answers now just like I had no answers then.

And my sisters and parents just can't seem to forget that unfortunate experience. 

Um... Bon Appetit! 

I'm all about sharing appropriate and appetizing anecdotes.

Peach Cobbler

1 stick butter, melted

1 cup sugar

1 cup self-rising flour

1 cup milk

2 cups peaches (fresh is best)

Whisk sugar, flour and milk together. Stir in the melted butter and pour into a greased 9 x 12 pan. Sprinkle the peaches on top. Sprinkle extra sugar on top if you wish. Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes.

Picking Strawberries in Fredericksburg

Our little family went on an adventure this past weekend to the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg is a treasure, ripe with history and natural beauty.

This unique German town is one of our very places to unwind for a weekend.

Once a year, usually in the late spring or early summer before it gets too hot, we pack up the car and head out.

Last year I was too pregnant to travel so I had been itching to see God's beautiful rolling hills and feel the warm, dry air on my face again.

Our weekend is always filled with delicious food (Fredericksburg Pie Co. and Cabernet Grille to be exact), a little shopping and sight-seeing, the bat cave at dusk (nearly a half million bats emerge every night), and swimming in the hotel pool (our 4-year old lives for hotel pools).

But the best part of the trip is picking fresh strawberries, blackberries and peaches at Marburger Orchards.

We have made such wonderful family memories between those rows of vibrant green plants.

Before we discovered this local farm, I had never tasted warm strawberries right off the plant.  

I'll tell you now, it's a challenge to go back to grocery store fruit afterward.

This gorgeous box is sitting in my refrigerator right now.

Oh, the possibilities... jam, shortcake, pie, ice cream.

Summer Boy

Fabric-Covered Notebook and Album

Summer is almost here...

Are you as ready as I am?

I've been planning some fun things that I want to do this year like going to the pool and the beach, taking a weekend trip to pick fresh peaches, cheering for our local minor-league baseball team, the Fourth of July fireworks show.

Ahhhh. I love this perfect time of year.

I'm a list-maker and I wanted a pretty notebook to keep by my side or in my purse for planning.

So I painted the top of my spiral with Mod Podge and laid fabric on top, smoothing it out with my fingers. Then I painted another layer of Mod Podge over it and let it dry. 

The big "E" was made with yarn and a hot glue gun. I added ribbon to the edges to cover the less-than perfect cut fabric.

This also works really nicely on photo albums for gifts or your coffee table.

Look at my little stink three summers ago.

I love it.
