Making Memories

My husband works from home.

It's not all glamour, ladies and gentlemen.

I mean, the poor guy has to take business calls during temper tantrums, lend a hand whenever I need something on the top shelf, and try to run a company from our living room during laundry, Thomas the Tank Engine, block building and 7-month-old raspberry-noise-making.

But there are definitely some perks.

Such as:

1. Wake up, brush teeth, put on pants, and would ya looky there? He's at work. No commute. Ever.
2. Getting to do weekend stuff on Tuesday if we choose 'cause we're flexy like that.
3. The occasional morning like today... making Valentine bags as a family at the kitchen table.

Yep. This home business stuff is the way to go.

Free Printable: Fill-In-The-Blank Word Game

Cabin Fever much?

Yeah. Freezing temps + icy roads + can't go outside for 72 hours = crazy mama

Here's a fun printable game for the kids (Mad Libs-style). Enjoy!

(If you're reading this in a reader, just click on the link to be directed to my page so you can see it.)

PS: Truth be told, I'm kind of loving this cold weather.

Heart-Shaped S'more Pops

Dearest Marshmallows,

DSC_0071

I'll pretty much eat anything that involves you, chocolate and graham crackersYou are perfect just the way you are; however, might I make a suggestion?

DSC_0019

I think you could be cuter

How about pink

Thanks so much.

Yours eternally,

PS: To make your s'mores heart-shaped, use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to slowly and evenly apply pressure and punch through the graham cracker. Then lay them on a baking sheet and place chocolate chips and pink (or white) marshmallows on top. Broil until marshmallows puff up and start to brown slightly. Sandwich your s'mores together and insert popsicle sticks. Cool.

Make No-Slip Socks

I'd been wanting to do this project for a while now, so here goes...

Give
your plainy-Janey socks...

DSC_0012

one-of-a-kind no-slip soles.

DSC_0006

1. Place cardboard strips in your socks and paint designs on the bottom using Puffy Paint.

2. Let them dry according to package instructions (I left mine overnight).

DSC_0002

How cute are these all rolled up like rosettes for a gift?

Ooh-- throw in a great foot scrub (I have a great eBook full of sugar scrub recipes) and your Valentine will kiss your feet! Truth.

Some other ideas I came up with (but haven't yet tried) are:

stenciling the recipient's name,
writing the alphabet and
drawing butterflies or animal paw-prints.

Trash to Treasure for Valentine's Day

We're using what we've got over here.

I mentioned that our house came complete with weird chainy light fixtures in every bathroom and ... gasp... even in the master bedroom.

Oh, you don't remember? Well, I did.

You can read about it here if you don't believe me.

They were very (cough) unique and (cough) fancy and (cough) grotesque.

Here are my little lovelies in all of their former glory.

And here's how I made them cool.

A Simple Ribbon-Wreath

#1. Our date night was SO FUN!

I needed that night out (and thank you for the sweet comments and emails)!

Have you seen True Grit yet? (Probably so. I'm usually the last person to see a movie lately.)

We loved it!

#2. This is the cutest and easiest little heart wreath.

I bent a wire hanger into a heart shape and tied ribbons and bits of fabric all around, squishing them really tightly together to make it fluffy.

I had everything at home, too, which made it

FREE (my favorite word)!

Valentine's Day Heart Bunting

Even though it's early, I couldn't help myself.

Our house needed to be Valentined, and I happen to love that holiday.

DSC_0084

My sweet little gray, white and pink bunting was really fun to make.

DSC_0081

I used felt, buttons, ribbon, rhinestones and furry yarn.

DSC_0085

But I'm still a little on the fence about where to put it.

DSC_0083

Sorry.

I can't help myself when it comes to puns, either.
