Front Door Makeover

If you are a facebook liker (how do you say that?), then you know I have been working on a front door makeover.

I finally got my porch light in and Jeremy installed it over the weekend.

Are you ready to see it?

Before:

It wasn't terrible, just a little bland and in need of some color.

The front door should welcome visitors to our home and I wanted it to stand out.

After:

We added new hardware and vinyl numbers in addition to the new paint and light fixture.

Here's a little tip if you want to paint your own door...

After the paint has dried, it takes several days for it to set completely. Well, you can't really leave your door open that long.

We used Vaseline on the edges to keep the door frame from sticking and pulling off my new paint. It worked great!

The paint I used was Valspar and the color is called Belle Grove Spruce. It's a latex-based exterior paint and I did not prime first.

  2. It looks great! I love the turqoise and black together, and the vinyl number is a fun detail. It is very welcoming! We had to use vaseline too on our front door in the old house when we painted it black. Oil base paint takes a long time to dry!
I am trying to figure out what to do at our new home (it has been almost a year). Our front doors are expensive dark cherry wood and have huge panels of etched glass (most of the door). It isn't my look, but they are such nice doors I don't want to mess with them. I need to get creative with some accents. : )

And thank you for the Vaseline tip!! I need to paint a door, and was wondering how I was going to be able to close it without ruining the paint. That's a great tip!

  44. That is a great idea! I would love to see a great big sparkly rhinestone in the middle of each circle on the door - that would really bling it up!

  45. I love the door handle and the lock! It looks like a semi-colon from afar. LOL! The mirror seems appropriate, too. You don't see that often in front doors. What was your idea behind the mirror?

  47. Love it! I also just recently had a front door makeover (http://mrsjennaw.blogspot.com/2011/05/front-door-makeover.html), it was a long time coming! We still have to finish the shutters, so the front of my house is looking slightly naked these days. I love the color you used, it's so happy!

  48. I love the color- I've also been looking through the comments to see the color - do you mind sharing? Also, what type of paint did you use? - Exterior or Interior? Latex or Oil? Did you prime it first? Your door looks amazing!!

  49. The colour is fabulous! Is that a mirror in the middle instead of a window? Neat idea; light reflective and more private.
