Pink Sunday Sugar Scrubs (For Breast Cancer Awareness Month)

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I'm throwing a big, ole hootenanny (thank you, Google spell check).

That's exactly what the invitations say.

Actually, it's going to be a very nice come-and-go Open House with shopping and visiting and eating little foods. I'm calling it Pink Sunday and I'm expecting it to be very cute and girly-- adjectives I cling to and bear hug whenever I get the chance (one lady + three boys = my house).

Along with several vendors, I'll have a table set up with some of my own goodies to sell. My scrubbies will make an appearance. All of these recipes came from my eBook, A Year of Sugar Scrubs.

Unrelated tidbit: I cleaned house ALL DAY LONG on Monday, thinking, "I'm so smart! I spic and spanned everything a week before and now we'll just MAINTAIN until Sunday..." Nope. Not happening. Should've waited.

In other unrelated news, I'm up for some food suggestions. I need yummy (most important) and easy (closely following in importance), does not require much prep before serving (assembly night before and reheating for the party is fine) and easily eaten without a fork.

Ideas? I know, I know, check Pinterest.

Pink Mantel (Breast Cancer Awareness Month)

Hold the phone. Didn't I just do a mantel, like, last week?!

Yes, yes I did. (Find it here.)

DSC_0296.jpg

I'm sure you've seen lots and lots of pink ribbons, tee shirts and other similar stuff around lately... October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I gingerly tucked away the Halloween mantel stuff for this week.

And by "gingerly tucked away," I mean it's piled up in the corner of my bedroom.

On Sunday, I'm throwing a Pink Sunday fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and I've invited everyone I know to come join me! I'm pretty excited (and nervous) about it all. I even took out an ad in the local paper.

I'm a pretty big deal right now. At least that's what the sticky note on my bathroom mirror tells me.

It's going to be an Open House shopping afternoon with Thirty-One (which I sell) and several other vendors, food, door prizes--all set up in my living room and kitchen!

Zooey-Mama!

We watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid this weekend. The four-year-old and I live for our "Zooey-Mama"  moments now. We're on the same humor-level like that.

So to spruce the place up a bit, I downloaded this free printable set from Chickabug and pulled out all the pink I could find (with no other ladies in this house, that was harder than I thought).

Later in the week, I'll be showing you a few other pink ideas I have up my sleeve for Sunday afternoon.

By the way, if you purchase anything through Thirty-One this week under the Pink Sunday Party, a portion of your total will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.

Zooey-Mama!

I can't help it.

PS: About the whole sticky-note thing... I kid, I kid.

FYI

If you were a Facebook fan early on (prior to about a month ago), you'll need to re-"like." I was having some issues with my other account and deleted it a few months ago.

The new page is up and growing daily. I'd so love to get to know you better-- join me!

My Halloween Mantel

Because of my white-white-white painted brick fireplace, I loved the idea of going with a stark contrast and using black, bright orange and bold yellow pops for a festive Halloween look.

I've never really been into scary stuff so I wanted elegant yet whimsical.

Here are my great-grandmother's ashes.

Just kidding.

I started off with half a yard of bold Houndstooth fabric, then added a few black and white accents.

The  pennant was made with orange felt and yellow pom pom trim.

In frames are the numbers, 10 and 31, for Halloween.

A Halloween Collection

I hope you're all having such a good week. I am!

Last weekend, my parents, sisters, our husbands, children and a few friends gathered at the Frio River for our annual after-Labor Day trip. Camping after the summer rush is the way to do it, friends. The weather is not-too-hot, still warm enough to swim, and no one's there! Plus, we usually get after-season rates on the cabins.

After four days of flip-flops and sunscreen, ladder ball, painting rocks, roasting marshmallows and laughing by the campfire, I was sad to get back to a routine at home. I'll share some pictures of our travels soon.

Halloween's on the way, though, and I am always excited about that! I thought I'd compile a bunch of my former Halloween projects in one place for you. Enjoy the season!

Candy Corn Wreath (an upcycle)

One thing I've learned since starting my blog is this...

Everything is a possible craft. I think twice before throwing even the ugliest of uglies away.

Exhibit A:

DSC_0266.jpg

I see the potential in things, which makes me an optimist.

Jeremy, are you reading this? I know you see my growing mound of future projects in the garage and you fear that I may need to seek professional aid.

But I don't, because look! The pile is dwindling down!

A Packing List

We get out of the house a lot. And I don't just mean that in a non-sheltered sort of way.

My husband frequently travels for business and we love to go along for the ride. Besides work, we really like poking around new places. Familiar places, too.

Pre-parenthood, we'd throw some stuff in the car and leave town for the weekend on a whim. No biggie. 20 minutes to throw things into a suitcase and we were out the door.

But with two kiddos, that type of spontaneity is limited. It's not the kids themselves--they're easy--it's their stuff. The bedding and snacks and diapers and stroller and car activities and extra outfits if they have an accident. It all takes so much more thought now.

Last-minute travel planning is a thing of the past in this house... at least for now. I fought off the structure as long as I could, man.

Here's my new, organized and responsible packing list. Cute cars included.
