Journaling About My Children: A 2011 Goal

When I was newly married, a dear, sweet woman I knew from church told me that one day I'd probably have children.

She then encouraged me to write down the precious, funny, silly and creative things that they would say and do.

Not just the big stuff. I'd remember that anyway.

"Write down the little things."

She has stacks of notebooks for each of her sons and they were filled with oodles of memories--some she would have otherwise forgotten.

So when my first son was born I decided that I would do the same, take a moment every few days and write down the tidbits of life...

the small, sweet times that I didn't want to lose.

Well, the truth is I haven't been the best about sticking with it.

So I will share with you my hope for 2011...

to fill these beautiful journals with my little ones' daily quotes and deeds.

I know I won't write every day, but I am setting aside time once a week to jot down a line or two for memory's sake.

PS: My journals came from Barnes and Noble this past summer,
but I tracked them down from the publisher, Chronicle Books. Click here and here if you're interested.

I think they are so beautiful.

  1. Beautiful idea. One that I've done sporadically since my kiddos were born. Thanks for the journal info. They are gorgeous!

  2. That's a great idea, reminder, inspiration. I "kept" a baby journal while I was pregnant, but being so OCD, if all my thoughts weren't in perfect order, I didn't write in it. What ended up happening is that I justnever wrote anything! I should go pick up that journal and just start writing again! Thanks for inspiring me!

  3. I am so like you. I began this journalling and somehow it has slipped away. What a good idea to get back on track. We will so regret it one day if we don't. Thanks for this important reminder. x

  4. I've been journaling since I was in middle school and I'm am SO glad I kept up with it. I like the idea of having a journal for each of the kids... I should start one for my 2 month old :)

  5. Beautiful journals and a beautiful idea. I had thought the same when my daughter was born and it all too quickly fell to the wayside. Recently I came across a few pages I had wrote and it was so touching to find those memories that I had completely forgot about. Although she's three, it's not too late for me to start again. Thanks for the reminder.

  6. That's a goal of mine too. I'm terrible at it.

  7. those are amazing journals! and I love the little things - they are usually way better than the memorable big stories, though those are good too :)

  8. Great goal! I used to journal all the trips my husband and I took before kids--details, quotes, names of restaurants, and drawn pictures. We now pour over those journals with smiles and warm hearts.
Your journals are gorgeous! Those will be very special momentos.
